The TX16S comes in a nice plastic case with foam inserts to keep everything safe and sound during transit. Inside the box you’ll find the transmitter itself, a neck strap, a lanyard, an antenna, a USB cable for firmware updates, and a quick start guide.
So far so good. The included manual is actually pretty decent too, offering clear and concise explanations of all the features and functions of the transmitter. That’s always a bonus.
Speaking of features, this thing has plenty. In addition to the 16 channels, you also get telemetry support ( RSSI, A1/A2 voltage), flight modes, head tracking, adjustable output power (25mW-200mW), failsafe/hold functions, vibration alerts…the list goes on. Basically everything you could want in a radio except for built-in GPS (which would be nice but isn’t really necessary).
In terms of build quality, the TX16S feels solid and well put together. All of the switches feel positive and click into place firmly without being too stiff or hard to move. The gimbal sticks have just the right amount of resistance and smoothness – not too loose and not too tight.
And overall it just has that “quality” feel to it that you want in something you’re going to be using extensively while flying your drone(s). No complaints here whatsoever.
So how does it perform?
In short: extremely well. Binding was quick and easy with no issues whatsoever; connecting to my various receivers was seamless; range checks showed very little degradation even at maximum distance; channel hopping caused zero interference or glitching;telemetry data was accurate and useful…I could go on but I think you get the idea – I’m thoroughly impressed with this transmitter!
